Mel Coleman
Intern / Practicioner
My name is Mel (she/her, they/them), and I am excited to be stepping into the counseling field sponsored by Well Being Sanctuary.
I am a graduate counseling intern volunteering to fulfill my course credit while completing the final two quarters of my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Walden University. My training includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
I completed my practicum at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, where I worked with individuals from diverse backgrounds navigating substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges. This experience strengthened my clinical foundation and deepened my commitment to providing compassionate, evidence-based care.
I bring a strong dedication to advocacy, inclusivity, and culturally responsive practice, with a particular focus on serving LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, and chronically ill communities—communities I am proudly part of. My work is grounded in empowerment, authenticity, and creating affirming therapeutic spaces where clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported.
My approach emphasizes collaboration, practical skill-building, and helping clients cultivate meaningful, values-aligned lives.
This Spring semester, I am offering free virtual individual and group workshops centered on mental health education, practical coping strategies, empowerment, connection, and sustainable wellbeing.
